All School Assembly Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through At the Table With Dr. King

On Wednesday January 14, the Morristown Beard School community gathered for an All School Assembly honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through At the Table With Dr. King, a powerful dramatic presentation directed by Dave Lemieux.

Hosted by the DEIB Office, the one-hour experience invited students and faculty into a moving exploration of Dr. King’s enduring impact and moral leadership. Through a dynamic blend of live music, spoken word, and multimedia storytelling, the performance brought history to life while highlighting the relevance of Dr. King’s message in today’s world.

The presentation was centered on Dr. King’s “Knock at Midnight” sermon and key moments from the Civil Rights Movement, emphasizing his call to courage, compassion, and justice. Featuring an extraordinary cast of performers including Peter Barquet, Jaye Gibson, Samira Gibson, Tyneshia Hill, Julian Litwack, Jazmin McCray, Christopher Mitchell, Criston Oates, and Chad Selph, the assembly challenged students and faculty to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and consider how their voices and actions can contribute to a more just and connected world." Rather than offering a reflection confined to the past, At the Table With Dr. King challenged audience members to listen for the unique call placed on their own lives and to consider how their voices, choices, and actions can contribute to positive change.

The experience reinforced the idea that justice is not passive, that love is an action, and that meaningful change requires commitment and service.

The assembly provided an opportunity for collective reflection, learning, and inspiration as the MBS community honored Dr. King’s vision and the shared values of justice, service, and belonging.
