Inside a Federal Case: U.S. Attorney’s Office Visits the MBS ICP Program

We were thrilled to host an engaging and informative session for the Ethics, Leadership and Justice cohort of the MBS Interdisciplinary Concentrations Program (ICP), featuring Ananya Sankar and Braden Florczyk, Paralegal Specialists with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

Ananya and Braden walked students through the life cycle of a federal case, from investigation and charging through trial and sentencing, using real world examples to illustrate how complex cases move through the federal justice system. Their presentation offered students a behind the scenes look at the critical role paralegal specialists play in supporting attorneys, managing evidence, and preparing cases for court.

Both speakers shared perspectives drawn from their extensive experience working on high profile cases, including the Luigi Mangione case, highlighting the collaboration, attention to detail, and ethical responsibility required in federal prosecution. Students also had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about daily responsibilities, workplace culture, and the skills most valuable for those interested in pursuing careers in law and public service.

In addition, Ananya and Braden provided valuable information about the undergraduate and law school internship programs within their office, helping students better understand academic pathways and early professional opportunities in the field of federal prosecution.

Thank you to everyone who participated and engaged with our speakers, and to Ananya Sankar and Braden Florczyk for taking the time to share their expertise and career insights with our MBS community.
