Servir a los demás

At Morristown Beard School, we believe that community service challenges students, now and later in life, to become self-reflective and aware of the needs of others. The higher purpose envisioned by our Community Service Program is to foster an acute and practical awareness of the dignity of “the other” in each individual.

Cada estudiante debe realizar ocho horas de servicio comunitario cada semestre y reflexionar sobre su experiencia. A los estudiantes se les permite realizar servicio en el campus para una parte de su requisito y luego deben cumplir el resto de sus horas trabajando fuera en la comunidad.

Communities Across the Globe

The personal interests of students also help forge new partnerships with communities across the globe. Students have: -sent letters and care packages to soldiers overseas -knit caps and blankets for cancer patients -sent books and supplies to partnered schools in Africa -repaired bikes to donate -participated in walks/runs to raise money and awareness for disease research

Give and Surf, a non-profit created by MBS alumnus, Neil Christiansen '02, hosts over 200 volunteers from around the world every year to actively engage in education and community development work that supports indigenous communities of Bocas del Toro, Panama.

Los estudiantes de Morristown Beard School regresan a Panamá para trabajar con Give and Surf cada dos años. Durante el viaje de 2018, nuestros estudiantes construyeron y pintaron un nuevo preescolar para la comunidad local. Otros tuvieron la oportunidad de trabajar directamente con los niños, ayudándoles a aprender español e inglés.

Cuando los estudiantes no estaban trabajando duro, se sumergían en la cultura y la comunidad panameñas.

Viajes de servicio comunitario

Community service trips are taken yearly during breaks, to help expose our community to the needs beyond. Trips in years past have included Habitat for Humanity builds in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. Students have also traveled internationally to sites such as Peru, Costa Rica, and Thailand to provide various services to local villages.
